The Recovery Gap...

Across very different ecological systems, a recurring contradiction is emerging.

Despite considerable conservation, restoration, policy and investment, activity can coexist with continuing ecological decline.

Join us at COP17 for The Recovery Gap: a 14 minute music-led audiovisual work translating scientific evidence from contrasting landscapes and seascapes through an original score and imagery, followed by discussion.

Ensuring recovery happens - or understanding why it doesn’t.

Responsibility for the conditions that enable ecological recovery is dispersed across sectors. At COP17, we are opening conversations with people in government, science, policy, finance, planning, agriculture, fisheries, law and business who are willing to engage with the proposition and help take the work forward.

Wild Legacy seeks to bring sectors together around ecological recovery as a shared objective, examining how our collective decisions can create the conditions for living systems to regain integrity and the capacity to sustain themselves.

Wild Legacy has identified candidate landscapes and seascapes for an exploratory enquiry alongside existing initiatives. Led by Jessica Fallon and guided by Wild Legacy’s ecological recovery proposition, the first phase will draw on relevant scientific expertise and people who know these places deeply to examine what recovery requires, what enables or constrains it, and how interventions and wider pressures interact.

The enquiry will develop through agreed collaborations in selected places, with a shared ecological focus and a coordinated process for examining and discussing evidence. Sustained engagement matters: the screening opens the question, while the enquiry requires time, scrutiny and learning together. Findings will be shared with the context needed to support informed decisions.

As evidence and questions emerge, we will bring them to the appropriate scientific and sectoral expertise for scrutiny and discussion, exploring possible responses and testing the assumptions behind them. This ongoing exchange will support learning and adjustments over time. The resulting findings can then inform wider policy discussions, including future work under the CBD.

The ambition is to establish a credible basis for change at greater scale, grounded in what the enquiry reveals. Wild Legacy brings our efforts into alignment - supporting your work and opening new possibilities for ecological recovery.

We welcome people and organisations prepared to engage with the evidence, question assumptions and help develop this collaborative process. We are seeking relevant expertise, contact points and feedback routes, alongside partnerships and funding to sustain the enquiry.

If this connects directly with your responsibilities, knowledge or experience, please scroll down and tell us how you could contribute to or support the work.

This will help us identify appropriate conversations as the enquiry develops.

Invite to Collaborate, Coordinate and Catalyse Change...

This is a challenge that requires open minded thinking and widening the lens....we looking forward to engaging with you.
